  1. We ate at Fronne Helene, a small restaurant in the 8th District. Friendly staff, informal and reasonabley priced. The outdoor seating was sweet. You get coushin upon arrival!

a thousand pardons: the corrects address forRestaurant UNA is: #76 Burgasse, Wien 7.The food remains unchanged.

If you are looking for ‘the real deal’ inAustrian/Wein cuisine there is NO better place than UNA. Located at #76 Neubaugasse in Dist.6. Very hard to get in ( due to its size not its attitude ). Una does all the cooking herself and once you’ve eaten there you won’t be happy anywhere else.

Without question, one of the best restaurants in the world (and in Vienna) is Steirereck im Park – exceptional service and food… you will be simply amazed! There’s a 95 euro tasting menu… expect 120 euros per person. But I hate to say, even in these economic times, might worth it! Truly a paragon of excellent and well-thoughtout service!

  5. If you like french bistrot cuisine I encourage you to have a look at the “coté sud” (Schleifmühlgasse 8) near the naschmarkt. Great place with great food

  6. Sean, thank you for the suggestion of Palatschinken Kuchl & Pfandl. We dined there a couple times in November. The meals were good and reasonably priced. It was not a tourist destination; although, they do have English menus available.Aida is the place for coffee and pastries. There are many locations in the city.

  7. For those looking for vegetarian / vegan options, here are a few of the best:VegetasiaKaiserstrasse 45, 1070FormosaBarnabitengasse 6, 1060RuppsArbeitergasse 46, 1050 ViennaThere are many more listed Tupalo: http://tupalo.com/vienna/search/vegetarian which tracks a lot of Vienna restaurants and shops.

  8. Is always difficult to get a table at the Hotel Sachers restaurants because they are oh so popular. Posted by William Sexton

  9. I’ve been going to Restaurant Dubrovnik since the mid-80’s. They have excellent food (both Austrian and Balkan dishes). It’s reasonably priced. The restaurant is centrally located opposite the Marriott hotel on the other side of the Stadtpark at Am Heumarkt 5, 1030 Wien 3., Landstraße, Wien, Austria +43 1 713710213 http://www.dubrovnik.at .

  10. Demel… it’s a staple in Vienna, and has the best desserts around.

We were lucky enough to get into “The Dining Room” after reading the NYT’s review. It was a fabulous dinner, and the service as good. To get a good feel for Viennese hospitality, this is definately a place to eat.

  12. Figimuller’s has by far the most incrdible schnitzel for a very reasonable price! Crowded at lunch but very festive and you might have to share a table–not for snobs but the real adventursome folks!

  13. For an over-the-top touristy treat, the Marchfelderhof, on the far outskirts of the city, is gimmicky, bright, crowded and loud. On a huge menu you can find things like a great pig’s knuckle with sauerkraut and maybe be asked to waltz with one of the staff.

  14. I thought the recommendation for acht ein halb was far too generous – food was mediocre at best and service lacking – try Restaurant Entler Schlüsselgasse 2 1040 WIEN in the fourth district for a real find. First class food at bistro prices

  15. I love to go to the restaurant Artner (http://www.artner.co.at) when I’m in Vienna at No. 6 Floragasse. Upscale, with excellent service, great wine and fantastic food.

Wieden Braeu in the fourth district. A microbrewery that serves Austrian food. Food is delicious and reasonably priced.

  17. The first district can actually be cheap, just not on Graben. Try the “Palatschinken Kuchl & Pfandl” off of Köllnerhofgasse. It’s kind of tucked away, near the orthodox church above Schwedenplatz. Good, traditional food (and a lot) for not too much.

  18. another vegetarian place with very tasty food is Vegetasia on Ungargasse, check http://www.vegetasia.at. lunch buffett is 6.50 euros.

  19. It can be difficult to find vegetarian fare in Vienna, but Wrenkh at Bauernmarkt 10 in the first district has a wonderful veg/non-veg organic menu at reasonable prices. http://www.wrenkh.at/

  20. “Hollmann Salon”, it is a newly opened restaurant in the first district of Vienna, located in a gorgeous centuries-old area.Austrian food, newly interpreted. More infos at http://www.hollmann-salon.at
