By all means see the tourist attractions, but make sure to discover Sydney’s neighbourhoods. King Street in Newtown is currently Sydney’s most diverse and exciting strip for alternative culture, international restaurants and just good old people watching; Oxford Street in Darlinghurst is heart of the gay community and Kings Cross is Sydney’s newly chic (read: gentrified) red light district, complete with giant neon Coke sign, and is one of the most densely populated suburb in Australia.
