I visited this year in Mid March. Stiff breezes around the country side and Dublin but I would highly suggest St. Patrick’s. The celebration is well worth it. Flights are expensive at all time. I flew from Portland. The infectious spirit of the day, the all Ireland Gaelic final, parades and finishing an evening in Temple Bar is worth the euros and then some.
My husband I spent the last two weeks of April 06 in Ireland and we thought it was the perfect time to go. It was just before the high season, so enjoyed off-season prices and crowds. We had some rainy and cool weather, but mostly it was sunny and lovely.
Avoid St. Patricks Day (March 17th) unless you are happy to pay for expensive air fare and accomodation. Its more fun ‘off peak’.
