Helsinki Restaurants
If you are traveling to Helsinki in company of 2 persons or more and you are staying 4 or more nights in Helsinki, I would highly recommend to buy a new book EatHelsinki 2009 (Get it from department store Stockmann in middle of Helsinki). The book cost about 30 euros and it repsents 12 of the best restaurants at the moment. And thats not all – since the book will give the best benefist to these restaurants. When 2 are eating main course you only pay for 1 main course. If there is only menu in the restaurant you are able to get the expensive menu for price of the cheapest!
The restaurants in the book are:
1. Cafe Bar 9
2. Carma
3. Grotesk (I highly recommend)
4. Juuri
5. Kosmos
6. La Société Du Cochon (very trendy at the moment)
7. Loft (also mentioned / writed by NYT Travel)
8. Mecca (One of my favourite place for dinner and for after drink in weekends)
9. Olo
10. Rafla (I think best day time restaurant and great Scandinavian food)
11.Rivoli (Very old school, but good)
12. Sasso (I havent been here, but next on my list!)
Pasta La Vista: Mikonkatu 8, near Ateneum art museum. Affordable Italian style pasta. Prices around 10$
Baker’s bar & Restaurant, Mannerheimintie 12Wonderful steakhouse, nice prices, friendly people, huge portionsDon’t even consider to try out Pizza hut in thesuburb. this location shares nothing with thePizza Huts we know from the US
Savotta is a Finnish restaurant with a German touch and serves a perfect dinner with lots of attention from the staff. We tried it News Years eve, when it was full, but we still had ample time to choose fish or meat Savotta – a grand variety of specialities – or the reindeer soup was very tasty. Main courses were Karealian stew, beef steak or bear (!) – we did not taste the latter, since it was somewhat pricey. The desserts were varied and delicious – like blueberry pie – and altogether the enviroment was special and surprising.
According to me, “Postres” on Esplanadi is the abolute must for a rejuvanted approach to Finnish cuisine with French influence (or vice-versa). Chef Vesa Parviainen got his first Michelin star this year and the price list hasn’t changed at all.For Japanese food lovers, Tokyo55, launched this year (Runeberginkatu), has a tasty and quite arty offer (watch their chef preparing sushis)…
Bistro on Koarkeanvuorenkatu together with Maxill are the best for ambiance and food south of Bulevardi and Esplanadi. Lots of locals eat and drink there regularly. It is also a popular meeting place. Very pleasant atmosphere easy visiting.
Karl Johan was superb — classily prepared, unhurried, and well-priced. A gem, not to be missed.
Karl Johan restaurant is a definite must. Yrjönkatu 21,(+35896121121) next to Torni hotel. It offers great upscale dishes at affordable prices. Karl Johan has amazing Noveau Swedish cuisine and a presentation which will not dissapoint. Very Innovative flavours and exquisite combinations. Family run to great stardards. Nice clean chic decor. (Great for dates and lunch too). Intimate and relax ambiance. In a few words” A WELL KEPT SECRET “
I wonder why a http://www.olo-restaurant.com“Olo restaurant/a is not listed. They have a michelin recomendation and is a fantastic place to spend an evening enjoying scandinavian dishes.I recomend the Nordic Menu.
Halikarnas serves inexpensive Turkish buffet. Dishes for meat lovers and vegetarians. Nic à la carte as well. Location: Ruoholahdenkatu 18.Silvoplee is specialized in organic and vegetarian dishes. Wonderful buffet – pay only for the weight of your portion. Kallio neigborhood, near city centre.Moinamoti. Location: Kolmas linja 6. Indian restaurant. Anyway their best dish is a pizza called Green Stock.Ilves is a place for those who love live rock. Located in Tavastia & Semifinal rock club complex. Great salads, pastas and burgers. Even for vegetarians.
Cantina West on Kasarminkatu has huge portions and tasty Tex Mex dishes. My recommendation is their lunch burrito.Vegetarians should try Zucchini on Fabianinkatu. It is very popular and sometimes very crowded lunch place that serves vegetarian and organic food.
