Want a break from delicious Moroccan food? (1) Authentic Thai at the Nawarma, off Jemaa el Fna square (next to Jardins de la Koutoubia hotel). The owner brought 2 chefs directly from Thailand and it’s inside an old Moroccan palace, with a fire fountain in the middle. The combination of exoticism cannot be beat. (2) Local businessmen’s and expats’ favorite for Continental is Le Jacaranda in the new city (32 Bd. Zerktouni). It’s been around longer than any (since 1950) and the dishes — both in taste and appearance — can only be described as works of art. (3) For a twist on Moroccan, the pricey eatery of the Aman-jena outside town. It’s traditional Moroccan style, yet infused with spices and twists the (Moroccan) chef picked up while working at Aman resorts in SE Asia. And the setting is sumptuous. (4) On the opposite (cheap) side, the tiny Crêperie de Marrakech offers crêpes bretonnes as good as anywhere in France (at the “Petit Marché” in new city Gueliz).
The Riyad Al Moussika,, ( http://www.riyad-al-moussika.com ), where I spent with friends a long weekend at the beginning of our journey to the south of Morocco in early January, is a place that has stopped time, where the magical atmosphere, relives Morocco of Pasha of 1800, but with all the comfort of our century. Everything is perfect, authentic, calm, serene…I recommend strongly this hotel for its central location, even for the excellent and very professional service provided by the young boys of the staff, always smiling and present without being intrusive.The chef and owner, Khalid, a nice and helpful big boy, who speaks I do not know how many languages, but among them an excellent Italian that has enabled me to know a world of things about authentic Marrakech, thing impossible otherwise, due to my language limitations, and, most important, who cooks in divine way.I conclude that the value for money is very good considering that the copious breakfast and the courses haute cuisine lunch, (by far the best of all restaurants in Marrakech and Morocco, where we ate), are included in rate.Only one regret: Having been there for 4 nights only!

On my visit to Marrakesh the food stalls Djama al Fna square where the best value food — delicious, freshly cooked food in a fun environment for very inexpensive (items are ala carte so you can spend as little or as much as you want). For a bit of a different experience, my friends and I took our food ‘to go’ one night (the chefs wrapped the food in aluminum foil) and we went and sat on the roof of our riad and enjoyed a break from the hustle and bustle and a beautiful view of the city at night. Have fun!
