  1. the best food place to go in mumbai is kake da dhaba.

  2. the best place for a vegetarian meal in south bombay has to be samrat. status restaurant is also good. get prior reservations on weekdays for lunch (since these are in biz districts) and also reservations required on weekends for both lunch and dinner.

  3. Kyber does have beautiful, but the food was bland. The food at the Taj Hotel restuarant was outstandingly excellent. I highly recommend it.

If you want true North Indian / Rajasthani food that locals eat — Bhagat Tarachand R (R is important as there are several Bhagat Tarachand’s in the lane). This place is near cotton exchange in Jhaveri Bazaar. Not for people seeking ambience — only good food. Also, try Friends Union Joshi Club (Gujarati food) on Kalbadevi road. Both of these places are cheap and excellent value for money.

  5. got really bad food poisoning from britannia. i do NOT recommend that place.i do, however, recommend ROYAL CHINA, an authentic chinese restaurant next door to sterling theatre.

  6. Leopold is a regular expat hangout with decent food.Golden Dragon at the Taj hotel has an excellent Chinese fare. For the best North Indian food in town visit the Copper Chimney at Worli.Franjipani at the Oberoi is a great place for a lazy mid-afternoon pizza / pasta.

  7. For all interested, http://mumbai.burrp.com is a great local resource for everything related to going out in the city.

  8. One reader mentioned Jimmy Boy–a Parsi restaurant. Good (and different)food, good prices, not too hard to get to. From an American who isn’t wild about Mumbai, but agrees there is great food to be had in the city…

  9. Kyber. the best meal i had in Mumbai. better than Krishna. beautiful decor as well.MP

  10. A backpackers staple: Leopolds on Colaba.
