When to Go to Ireland
Late September and into October can be a gorgeous time of year, still warm and sunny, but much less expensive than the summer. The Spring can also be wonderful(as early as late February), but with more chance of showers. Favorite places for natural beauty: Lismore, Co.Waterford, anywhere in West Cork, Dingle Peninsula in Co.Kerry, and along the coast in Co.Clare and Galway. For cities, Cork is my favorite and Galway is next. As locals for what’s good in the area, and always drive off the beaten path.
We just got back from a February trip to Ireland and found that while unconventional, it was a very nice time to be abroad. Because we able to get excellent deals on wonderful accommodations, we were able to be more spontaneous about our travel plans without worrying quite as much about pricing and availability. It was a bit chilly for us coming from San Francisco, with temperatures lingering around 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Though while it was always wet on the ground and in the air, it never seemed to actually rain.Overall, I would recommend not being dissuaded by the travel guides from travel to Ireland in the winter time.
